In this policy we describe the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you use our website (the “Website”) and our practices for collecting, using, protecting, and disclosing that information.

Please read this policy carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your information and how we will treat it, as you agree to this Privacy Policy by using the Website. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, do not use the Website.

Children Under the Age of 13

The Website is not intended for children under 13 years of age and you are not allowed to use the Website or provide information on it if you are under 13 years of age. If we learn we have received personal information from or about a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information immediately. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us immediately at info@plexome.com

If you are based in the European Economic Area (“EEA”) you may only use the Website if you are over the age at which you can provide consent to data processing under the laws of your country or if verifiable parental consent for your use of the Website has been provided to us.

Content Compared to PII About You

Users can use the Website to upload, create, share, and manage “Content,” which is information that a user voluntarily provides to the Website but we do not ask for and may include personal data about others or other sensitive information. We have no control over the information contained with Content. Content does not include usage information we intentionally collect about how users share, access, or manage Content.

The Company is merely a data processor of the Content and you, the user, is the data controller of the Content. This means that we will only process personal data from the Content on your, and other users’, behalf and according to our users’ instructions (or as otherwise required by applicable laws), and you are solely responsible for the use, disclosure, sharing, and rights of any Content you manage on the Website. We are not responsible for, and this Privacy Policy does not apply to, the collection, use, processing, or sharing of Content by you or other users.

This Privacy Policy refers primarily to the information that we collect about you as a user of the Website, unless a section herein specifically refers to “Content,” in which case we are referring to this user-owned Content.

Information We Collect About You

We collect several types of information from and about users of the Website, including (this section is not referring to Content):

  • Information that you use to sign up for your account on the Website, such as name, email address, and institution with which you are affiliate;

  • Information that you voluntarily include to personalize your Website profile, such as job title, work address, research focus and experience, affiliated institutions, education and training, professional experience, license and certifications, memberships, awards, and publications;

  • Information that you include in messages to other users;

  • Data that you contribute to the Website, either publicly or privately within your group;

  • Additional information that you voluntarily enter to use the functionalities of the Website;

How We Collect Information From You

We collect information from you in two ways:

  • First, directly from you when you provide it to us, such as signing up for an account, uploading your data onto the Website, or sending a private or group message on the Website.

  • Second, we collect generic information about your usage and equipment automatically as you navigate through the Website, such as usage details, IP addresses, web browser preferences, and information collected through cookies and other tracking technologies. Although we do not correlate tracking information to individuals, some information collected, such as IP addresses, will be unique.

In some countries, including countries in the EEA, the information referenced above in this Privacy Policy may be considered personal information under applicable data protection laws. If you do not want us to collect this information, do not use the Website.

Do Not Track Settings

The Company does not track its customers over time and across third party websites to provide targeted advertising, and therefore does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals. However, some third party websites track your browsing activities when you use their websites so that they can tailor their content to your preferences. If you are visiting such sites, your web browser may allow you to set the DNT signal on your browser so that third parties (particularly advertisers) know you do not want to be tracked.

User Contributions

The Website includes public areas where you can post or publish any content to other registered users, plus messaging features where you can transmit information to other users of the Website (collectively, “User Contributions”). Your User Contributions are posted on and transmitted to others at your own risk and, to the extent that you share personal information in these User Contributions, our obligations under this Privacy Policy do not apply to these disclosures. Additionally, we cannot control the actions of other users of the Website with whom you may choose to share your User Contributions. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that your User Contributions will not be viewed by unauthorized persons.

You are responsible for ensuring that your User Contributions and Content are collected and handled (including personal information) in compliance with all applicable laws. As a processor, rather than controller, of this Content, we only access Content as necessary to:

  • Respond to customer support requests regarding the technological features and capabilities of the Website or requested or required changes to Content;

  • Comply with any court order, law, or legal process; or

  • Investigate or respond to suspected violation(s) of our policies and terms.

Data Retention

We retain personal information we collect from you where we have an ongoing legitimate business need to do so (for example, to provide you with a service you have requested or to comply with applicable legal, tax, or accounting requirements).

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.

Accessing and Correcting Your Information

You can review and change your personal information by logging into the Website and visiting your account profile page. Keep in mind that you can determine through your profile settings which information is “private” (not shared with other users) and which information is “public” (shared with other Website users, but not with the general public). You may also send us an email at info@plexome.com to request access to, correct, or delete any personal information that you have provided to us. We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause the information to be incorrect.

Since we do not control Content, requests to review, access, delete, or modify Content must be directed to the user who manages the Content. You are welcome to contact us with information about the Content you wish to access and the user who manages it and we will refer your request to that user and support them as needed.

If you delete your User Contributions or Content from the Website, copies of your User Contributions may remain viewable in cached and archived pages, or might have been copied or stored by other Website users.

Data Security

We have implemented measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorized access. For example, access by a user to his or her personal information is available through a password that must meet robust minimum requirements and a unique customer ID selected by the user, in addition to automatic logout mechanisms. This information is encrypted through the Website with Secure Socket Layer technology (SSL) and is also encrypted when it is stored by us to prevent unauthorized parties from viewing such information. Also, we perform regular malware scanning of the Website and all servers and computers used by us to support the Website. We use Amazon’s AWS for hosting our Website and leverage multiple security features offered by this service. All Company employees are required to adhere to our security and confidentiality procedures and undergo training related to maintaining the security of user personal information.

The safety and security of your information also depends on you. Where you have chosen a password for access to certain parts of the Website, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential. We ask you not to share your password with anyone and be careful about giving out information in public areas of the Website.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Although we do our best to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted to the Website. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Website.
